Salcha Sprints The Salcha Sprints are 5 k of sweet racing. This years addition was very exciting with many crazy places on the course. The ice on the course had everyone slipping and sliding. If you were lucky enough to not crash on the uphill's and slip out then you had to be able to make it down the feared "Grizzly" hair-raising downhill. The Salcha course has it all..Steep fast twisty downhill's, uphill's you can hardly ski, and all the gradual terrain you could ever want. My race went very well. Since it is just a 5k you have to skate hard the entire way, no rest. So that is what I did. I was feeling it a little after the first couple of k, then I was able to recover a bit and hit the main hills really hard. I tried to ski the hills at full sprint pace and I was able to hold it pretty well. A 5k happens so fast you don't have time to think about it and try a different pace. It is just all about going very fast and not slowing down. I love them. Davya and I have now driven down to Anchorage and are wondering where all the snow is. The views were amazing for the drive. |
