US Nationals Day 2: 15k classic... We have just had our second race of this years US National Championships. Them men went 15k while the women went 10k. The day before the race the snow was coming down like there was no tomorrow, it was crazy. On race day the sky had stopped snowing and cooled down enough for the organizers to groom some perfect tracks that held up through hundreds of racers. I did not have the race that I was shooting for. I felt as though I did not have the extra ping, pop, or boing in my legs to make myself go fast. It was just kind of a 45 minute suffer-fest out there for me. My motor was running but without all the horsepower it usually has. I finished in about 60th place, which is about 40 places worse than I thought I could be in. Oh well, another race another day. Brent had a better finish of 35th place. All our APU skis were awesome. The kick was sweet and glide was as good as any, so it was not our skis slowing us down. We have had a lot of sickness going around our team this week, I think Bart and I are the only ones not to get sick. So knock on wood so I don't get sick... The APU women rocked it though. Kikkan won another national title and Kate was in 4th. Laura took tenth while Becca ended up in 15 which is awesome. Becca and I are both on the cusp of making U23 and World Junior teams, so the sprint is going to count for a lot. It seems I always make a World Championship team due to sprinting so tomorrow I am going to make it happen and ski really fast. It is also a skate sprint so that is good for me.
