Happy New Year and USA National Ski Championships...DAY 1...

Nationals day 1 is over now and it was a good start to the week for me. We have been here in Houghton for a few days now waiting to race. Today we finally got that chance to show what we have. Today we raced a 10k skate for the men and a 5k for the women. The weather has been great all week leading up to the races and then at the last second a storm comes in and starts dumping snow last night and into today. It only snowed a couple of inches by the time we started and by the time I was done it was a full on blizzard. It was kind of fun to see all the snow.

I had the best distance race I have ever produced at a National Championship race today, I ended up in 31st place just about 25 seconds out of 11th, so things are getting better. I did not even really feel like I was skiing all that well. I am making small steps as a distance skier and all it takes is a bit of time and lots of training. I am getting excited for the sprint race on saturday, it is going to be great. Tomorrow we get a rest day, then on thursday we do a grueling 15k classic, it should be exciting for everyone. As for the rest of the team you can check out results at www.itiming.com.

We had a solid showing today as a team, I am sure it will only get better for us. The first day of a series of races is always the hardest to get through. Now the bodies are all fired up and ready for lots more racing to come this week.

Here are a couple of pictures I was able to get the last couple of days...
